Correlation between Lubricating Oil Characteristic Parameters and Friction Characteristics

In order to help one judge the friction properties of lubricating oils without tests, this paper intends establish correlation between characteristic parameters and properties. The elastohydrodynamic boundary poly alpha olefin (PAO) synthetic oil, polyol ester oil paraffin-based mineral were tested using a Mini-Traction Machine. Fourier transform infrared microscopy is used identify material changes before after tests. kinematic dynamic viscosities three measured petroleum product viscosity tester rotating rheometer. results show that does not directly determine COF (coefficient friction) but higher viscosity, oil. viscosity-pressure coefficient, lower index (the worse viscosity-temperature performance), which related adaptability molecular structure pressure temperature. PAO have excellent resulting from their strong temperature variations due presence linear chains flexible groups.
